Last weekend involved a visit to an annual scuplture festival held on Bondi Beach to Tamarama Beach - Sydney. This year makes the 12th incarnation of the festival.
The decision to visit had been percolating around in my head since last year when I missed the 11th festival (the usual reason - work / and other things) - so this year - I woke up Sunday morning and decided - 'that's it - get up and go to the event now' - two bus rides and one train ride later - I finally made it to bondi beach (1.5 hours). Unfortunately - it appears that most of sydney decided to visit on this sunday as well... maybe it was the weather, maybe it was becuase it was a sunday ... maybe it was just becuase it's a very popular free event on sydney's premier beach.
With the temperature soaring to a balmy 30+C (my kind of weather) - I traipsed around the pathway - dodging other visitors and trying to obtain photos of the artwork 'sans' people (easier said than done).
Over 100 pieces of sculpture were exhibited in 2008 - I found more than a few I would categorise as 'favourites'.
2 hours of walking around / fighting with strangers to get them 'out of my damn shot' - and generally enjoying the fresh air and sunshine - I was ready to return home - this time I managed to complete the trip in under 1 hour :)
Another 2 hours of uploading and editing photos - (yes that's right - over 2 HOURS of uploading and editing and deleting photos - 500+ photos of the day - granted many were multiples) - and finally I had a record of the day.
After seeing the standard of artworks exhibited this year - I can't wait until the 2009 round of entrants.
